New vid lessons

I've developed a new series of 16 video lesson downloads. Roughly 2 hours of material that feature pentatonic, diatonic and advanced approaches to the 3 flavors of chords that we probably spend the most time with.  Major, Min7 and Dom7.
There are also lessons on non traditional triad voicings, diatonic triad voicings, diatonic major and melodic minor chord/scale voicings that are also a method on how to approach chords and harmony.  Some ideas and exercises designed to work on your  technique and a couple of short lessons on what I call "mult-tasking" voicings.  Info on inside-outside playing, 1/2-1 dim scale approaches, phrasing ideas and a lesson on the altered scale that includes a few easy pentatonic approaches to it.
These lessons are designed to expand your vocabulary, work on fundamentals and increase your knowledge of harmony both in your comping and in your soloing.  Docs with TAB and standard notation are included.  $75.00

BWB Pt I

The material is blues based using pentatonic scales and variations to deal with the chord changes. I touch on the 1/2-1 dim scale as well, again, approaching it with variations on pentatonic ideas. Throughout the lesson I demo the ideas w/ play along tracks (included) that open doors to more complex harmony.  The lesson concept's are strong on melodic content and connecting ideas with the aim at expanding blues based vocabulary.    855.4 MB

BWB Pt II

Picks up where Pt I left off. More blues vocabulary, ideas and concepts.  Still presented from a pentatonic point of view but giving you the complete scales as another option. Using pentatonics we also get into altered sounds.   775 MB

BWB Pt III

Takes a peek into the jazz world using the blues as a launching off point, reviews the previous material and wraps up the series.    592.6 MB

Blues Changes

"Blues Changes" covers the chord progressions and voicing's from the "Blues With Brains" series. (Pt's I-III)  I also add some new material to the progressions with other voicing's and substitutions.  Unlike any of the previous BWB lessons, this deals only with the chords. 467 MB

BWB Pt IV (PAF)

This lesson takes it to another level. It's a minor blues with a bridge that has some twists and turns including different chord changes in the blues progression and a bridge.  The analysis gives you more pentatonic shortcuts for Alt and Lydian b7 sounds and some easy ways to navigate the II-V changes in the bridge.  Includes a play-along track.    433.9 MB

PAF chart DL

BWB Pt V (Advanced Ideas) will give you some unorthodox approaches (ex: sym aug) to dom 7th chords and some unusual twists and turns (II-V subs) on your way to the IV chord.  657 mb

Voicings will greatly expand your chord vocabulary w/ a solid and easily understood "horizontal approach" to diatonic harmony.  It may be an eye opener for some.  677.9 mb

TAB and standard notation doc's are included w/ these two vids.

Modes

This lesson is all about the fundamentals. I often find that there is some confusion regarding this material.  A really effective way to learn this stuff is from root to root. Every example starts on A so you have to learn the defining note(s) of each scale/mode. And it's helpful to know the tension notes to add on to the triad or 7th chord to really outline/define the sound of that scale/mode.  Each one has it's own sound and characteristics.  I cover the 7 modes of the major scale, the melodic minor, lydian b7, alt and the 1-2/1 diminished scale.  I find my self using these  to cover most harmonic situations.   874.8 MB

One Chord Grooves Dom7-Min 7th

The material is designed to open doors and present different options when playing over one chord grooves. Using pentatonic scales, triads, substitutions, chord scale relationships and other devices you will be using some of this material on your next gig as well as having new concepts to study.   594.4 MB
